As a general dentist, Dale Probst, DMD offers a full range of dental services for patients of all ages in the Charleston and James Island, SC area. At a minimum, come to us for cleanings and exams twice a year. From there, we’re able to help you protect and preserve your natural teeth through a variety of general dentistry treatments and procedures. These include fillings, crowns, and root canals. We’ll also help repair chipped or cracked teeth. Plus, we provide implant placement and restorations as well as tissue re-contouring for gum recession and bone grafting procedures.
Dental Implants
Any dentist’s goal is to help you keep your natural teeth for as long as you possibly can. But for many people, one or more teeth will need to be removed over the course of a lifetime. You may wonder why you should replace your missing teeth. But if you don’t, this can lead to a bite that’s misaligned, shifting of teeth, bone loss, and a higher chance of tooth decay and gum disease. In the past, dentures and partials were your only option for tooth replacement. Fortunately, new advancements have led to a better solution: dental implants.
Dental implants are almost as good as the real thing. They look natural, feel natural, are designed with a root and a crown, and become a part of the bone structure in your jaw. They’re also secure. A titanium post is inserted into the jawbone. This post serves as an anchor for a crown or bridge. Another benefit is that dental implants are permanent. This makes it more convenient and more economical than other alternatives.
What is the dental implant process? You’ll first need to come for an exam to determine if you’re a good candidate for this procedure. Dr. Probst will look at both X-rays and your soft tissue. He’ll also inquire about your general health and make sure you have proper bone density. If you qualify, the process will begin by placing the implant and performing any necessary bone grafts. Once the bone has accepted the implanted post, Dr. Probst will add the necessary custom crown, bridge, or denture.
Throughout the process, we’ll make sure your comfort comes first. In addition to our caring, compassionate treatment, our practice offers sedation dentistry. Dr. Probst can advise you on whether nitrous oxide, oral sedation, or IV conscious sedation will be best for you.

Gum Recession Treatments
Dr. Probst also offers gum recession treatments to improve the health and appearance of your gums. Receding gums can cause your smile to not look its best. Gum problems can also lead to tooth decay, pain, and a loss of gum tissue. If you have receding gums, there are gum rejuvenation techniques to help save your gums and teeth and to stop further gum recession. Today’s gum recession treatments are more comfortable and offer faster results than traditional gum grafting.
